Ethan Allen’s path into music began in Austin, Texas, where he spent his early years playing in bands and writing songs, immersed in the city’s rich and eclectic scene. What started as a passion for performance soon became a fascination with sound itself. He found his way into the recording world at a small jingle studio, learning the craft from the ground up before moving on to Arlyn Studios and Pedernales Studio — Willie Nelson’s renowned recording spaces, and at the time among the largest in Austin.
In 1995, an opportunity took Ethan to New Orleans, where he joined producer Daniel Lanois at Kingsway, a studio tucked into the French Quarter and steeped in atmosphere. There, he grew into the role of house engineer, working across genres, styles, and sensibilities — sharpening his instincts on both the technical and creative sides of recording.
By 2000, he was ready to strike out on his own. Transitioning into freelance production and engineering, Ethan also helped establish Truck Farm Studio in New Orleans’ Upper Ninth Ward. Over the years his work has brought him into collaboration with artists including Mavis Staples, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Ben Harper, Tricky, Sheryl Crow, and Patty Griffin, among many others.
Now based in Silverlake, Los Angeles, where he runs his studio Royal Triton, Ethan continues to evolve as both producer and musician — performing as a multi-instrumentalist with the band ASHRR while shaping records with the same curiosity that first drew him into the studio. Alongside his production work, Ethan composes and licenses original music for television, motion pictures, advertising, and video games.
